Audra is an artist who stands out because of her range and variety of her talent as a performer and song writer. Audra McDonald who has won Six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was named as one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People. The president Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the nation's most prestigious award for excellence in this area. Blessed with a luminous soprano and an incomparable gift of telling the truth in a dramatic manner She is equally comfortable on Broadway as well as on the scene as she is in her TV and film roles. In addition to her theatre job, she is also pursuing an active career as a musician and recording artist. She performs regularly in some of the top venues around the world. McDonald was born in Fresno California, where she was surrounded by a large family full of musicians. In the Juilliard School in New York City, McDonald received training as a classical singer. She won her first Tony Award in 1994 for the Best Performance of the Featured Actress in a musical called Carousel, at Lincoln Center Theater. The next four years she received two additional Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performance in The Broadway premieres of Terrence McNally's play Master Class (1996) and the musical Ragtime (1998) which gave her the record-breaking total of three Tony Awards before the age of 30. In 2004, she received her fourth Tony for her role as Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and in 2012 she received the fifth time and first time in the lead actress category in the role of her lead for her role in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. One of the Tony Awards most-decorated performer in 2014 was Billie Holiday, who she was as the title character in Lady Day At Emerson's Bar & Grill. This is the same role she played in her 2017 West End London debut for in which she's been nominated for an Olivier Award. As well as recording the record for the highest number of competitive wins by an actor she was also the first actor to be awarded awards in all four acting categories. Her credits in the theatre include The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). Twelfth Night marked McDonald's Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut. Shuffle Along is the Making of the Musical Seduction of 1921, and All That Followed. Frankie Johnny in the Clair de Lune. and Ohio State Murders. McDonald was first seen on television with the award-winning Peabody Award-winning CBS show Having Our Say - The Delany Sisters's First 100 Years. After starring with Kathy Bates, Victor Garber as well as others in the critically popular Disney/ABC remake of Annie in 1999, McDonald had been a regular character in the network's Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald's Emmy-nominated performance as Emma Thompson on Mike Nichols' HBO film adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Wit was written by Mike Nichols. McDonald's return to the network TV screen came in 2003 in which she co-starred with Josh Brolin in Mister Sterling. Then, in the year 2006, McDonald appeared on WB's The Bedford Diaries. The next year she was a recurring actor on NBC's Kidnapped. In the year 2016, McDonald was nominated for an additional Emmy award for her role as a character in HBO's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, a film-special. She starred alongside Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in The Bite a six-episode pandemic-themed drama produced by Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios in 2021. McDonald played U.S. prosecutor Liz Lawrence in the first episode of her role was seen in the CBS drama The Good Wife legal drama in the year 2009. She reprised this role in 2018as the Season the regular Liz Reddick in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. In recognition of the role she played, McDonald received three Critics Choice Award nominees. McDonald guest-stars as a guest star in Julian Fellowes historical drama The Gilded Age.
